Fattoria di Bacchereto
Natural, authentic and simple are the most important things for Rossella Bencini Tesi when it comes to making wine. All of the aids for growing these grapes come naturally from their area. The exception is some sulfur to protect the plants from disease. Fertilization is done in the old way with "green" fertilization, weeding is done mechanically. No chemicals are used.
The return is low, approx. 1kg per plant. Fermentation takes place naturally using the yeast substances that are already in the skin of the grapes. No filtration or cooling control in any part of the processes.
Carmignano DOCG is a wine region in Tuscany located around the town of Carmignano approx. 16 km northwest of Florence. They are recognized for their quality of wines since the Middle Ages and the area was in 1716 given a special origin protection by Cosimo III de`Medici who at that time was Duke of Tuscany «Grand Duke of Tuscany». It was also in this century that the Carmignano region started the tradition of mixing a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon into its wines over 200 years before anyone started making Super Tuscans. In 1975, they were recognized with DOC status with subsequent DOCG status from the 1988 vintage. Wine has been made in this region since Roman times and although there have been constant attempts to get them under the Chianti name, they have always stood their ground and refused to be a part of this.
